cheap therapy
May. 20th, 2004 01:28 pm1. I did something today I've not done for years and it's bothering me. I wrote a poem/lyric knowing as I did that it was crap, and refused to stop despite this knowledge. Crazy thing is, I don't hate it for that. And I think it may have helped me focus. But it would only have been up to publication standards back in high school and that's almost coming around to reunion time. So, probably not going to get posted any time soon unless somebody thinks it's brilliant.
Recently I did start a song I was perfectly aware was crap, but it was supposed to be crap. I and several co-workers had been discussing American Idol and how most of the contestants could sing and had no other musical skill. (A reason, not the only one, that I don't watch it.) Someone said that there was actually a phase of the show once in which people did write songs and have to perform them, but the catch was that they were given a keyword or a topic. This was coming on the heels of a discussion about the new flavors of Every Flavor Beans (spaghetti, soap, and earthworm), so of course my brain started running with this idea. And a piece of complete crap was born. But it sure was fun.
2. This is the second time today I've been playing an album on the iPod and my neighbor's radio has been playing a song off the same album. And they're the two songs that were battling it out for possession of my brain last night--"My Immortal" and "100 Years." Go fig.
