1. I have learned to make lemon meringue pie. The kitchen floor is somewhat worse for wear, having had a spatula-ful of partially cooked filling thrown at it (oopsie), but otherwise everything went well. I must remember that Earth Balance shortening is the BOMB for pie crust. (Individual sticks, refrigerated, wrapped like butter. Nonhydrogenated too. The unbaked crust actually smelled good.) And at a middle step of the pie recipe, you have this interesting clear sugar goo, which I will have to research further for odd-food purposes. It may be useful for green slime or the like.

2. Disbanded the crew of my former main pirate on Sunday. I had been planning to do it about two weeks ago, but on the day I made my decision, I logged on to see that a crewmate I hadn't seen in six months was back and wanted her ship deeds. I tried to catch her for a week and kept missing, so I gave up and posted my email address so she could let me know when she'd be available. No word. Then, on Friday, I logged on to check for a map and boom! Crewmate.

Not only was that crewmate online, but the crew she was jobbing with contained both former captains of my crew (one permanently, one jobbing in). I'd thought they were gone for good. So I pillaged with them for a while and the general consensus was that the old crew was pretty dead. I still felt awful giving the order to disband, even with the consent of three founding members.

I had an interesting tapdance trying to keep one boat I inherited. According to what I heard from other players back in January, it had been at the center of a nasty monetary battle. I got it from the captain before me, who had gotten it from the captain before him, who had been one of the players in the money fight. For all that, nobody could seem to remember where the boat had come from, or who owned it, and I didn't tell them. I feel, oddly, like I'm getting revenge on behalf of the other player in the fight, who went AWOL. And now that there's no crew, to enable members to check boat ownership on any vessel of any crew member, chances are I'll get to keep it for good. Muahahahaha.

Disbanding did spotlight one slightly nasty game rule: if you're not an officer in a crew, you can't command a ship. Meaning, if you own a boat or three but aren't in a crew, you can't sail your own boat. So I am now the captain of a one-woman crew, Blue and Fuzzy. Which will look much better to others than being captain of a dead crew.

Sorry to hear about the disbandment. My crew just renamed itself, since we joined a new flag, our captain and vice captain left to "take a break" and join other crews for a while, and a bunch of people I helped train got promoted above me to SO, which although I don't care, feels wierd. So, maybe shopping for a new crew too.

I'm the captain of a one-woman crew on Cobalt - captain Istachalion of the crew Paladin of Souls, at yer service. (Paladin of Souls is the Lois McMaster Bujold novel that the character Ista dy Chalion is from.) I created it for the same reason.

Oooh, yes, much neater than leveling it off with a butter knife. We had several sticks of Crisco that way, but Jake kept taking the plastic tubs that held their shape. They make great containers for legos and stuff.
