sew like a pirate day
Apr. 18th, 2005 09:01 pmIn the process of sewing a PotC skull-and-cross-swords patch on the new backpack. I picked this one up when we got me a suitcase at Robinsons-May (Samsonite, blue, dirt-cheap, and discontinued) before leaving for HI. It's another navy-blue Jansport and it's even hulkier than Umber, who met a sad and slimy fate involving a bottle of expired sunscreen about a year ago. What I miss most so far are the cinching straps at the sides, which were great for keeping my 10^6 little notebooks from splaying each other open in transit.
But I digress. Patch. Is small in area but huge in perimeter. And a pain in the arse to sew on. Ironing isn't an option unless I want to void my limited warranty by flagrantly disobeying the tags. Problem is, it's made to be ironed, with a thick backing of what's probably goo that mainly makes needling it difficult. I may be the only person in several years and countries to have bought a thimble in a gift shop and actually used it as a thimble.
After the skull, I have a bubble fairy, who is going to be another pain in the arse, and a plain round Mauna Kea patch, which should be a relief. And somewhere in all this I need to find my embroidery floss so I can put little flowers on this pack too. In memory of the Umber Hulk.
(Note: by the time I finished the entry, the headmusic had been replaced by real, Memorex Butterfly Boucher. Kept the music line as I've been in a Sakura mood all day. *poing*)
