teflon goes inside the pan

alenxa_classicMade a batch of brownies last night using a new pan from the registry. As I was taking it out of the oven, I found out the hard way that the entire pan, not just the inside, has a nonstick coating. It slipped right off the potholders (the fact that they were also new probably didn't help) and headed for the floor. And, like a dumbass, I half-attempted to grab it. Left thumb meeting hot pan for a split second convinced me to do otherwise. Miraculously, the pan landed right-side up, with the brownies all inside. They have a nice wrinkly look where they're not folded over on themselves, and they still taste good. Yay for Trader Joe's mix.
My thumb is not quite as happy. I remembered the water-saving trick I used years ago for a steam burn--wiggling a burned body part in a container of cool water is as good as running the water over it--and was toting a bowl of water around all evening. I also discovered that my Burt's Bees Res-Q, being oil-based, can be used at the same time as the water, and that this is a powerful combination. I was able to type for something like half an hour at a stretch after that without getting major pain. It came back when I went to bed, though, and in trying to quench the burn without freezing my arm outside the covers, I fell asleep with my thumb in the water bowl, which was on the nightstand, and spilled half of it on the floor by jerking awake a few seconds later. Yay me. At least it didn't splash my alarm clock.
It now looks like I have freezer burn on a dime-sized area. It's very stiff and hypersensitive but not painful if I leave it alone, even in the shower (which I was dreading). Huzzah for lavender oil preparations. I wonder if there's a company somewhere that sells it in a pocket-sized atomizer for sunburns. Maybe with a bit of aloe mixed in. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
