rumming on empty
Sep. 9th, 2004 10:57 pmLast night, I found out what happens when your ship runs out of rum. The crew had the misfortune to be in a sparsely settled area, late at night, in what's known as a rough neighborhood. On top of that, twice in a row we had people drop in and out without giving the captain a chance to get an AI to replace them for a swordfight, and we lost rather badly. When the AI brigands beat ye, they takes yer rum. When ye got no rum, yer ship starts failin' no matter what ye does. The bilge be full however ye pump it and the holes in yer hull just won't go away.
What's more, the AI brigands attackin' ye figure yer strength based on yer crew rankings in the puzzles. If ye get more hands on board to try and budge yer vessel a bit faster, the brigands that attack ye get stronger and more plentiful. When there be nine o' them and yer boat can only hold seven (and be sailin' with only five), ye're gonna have a tough time. The whole crew did excellent on the duty puzzles the last league and we still had a full bilge, 40% damage, and were making far less than half speed. And it took long enough that every single person aboard went past their bedtime.
Arrrr. Pass the Cap'n Morgan and a scupperin' big cup o' coffee.
