will bilge fer p.o.e.
Aug. 18th, 2004 07:04 amSo I'm checking out PopCap Games on the recommendation of a co-worker, and an ad-banner link that's previously been linking to various of their "deluxe" games (the ones you pay for, rather than just playing as Java) displays something called Puzzle Pirates. Thinking it's going to be just another game that I, as a Mac user, can't play, I click for the hell of it.
The idea is that everything a pirate would do--swordfighting, sailing, distilling rum--is set up as a puzzle game inside a multiplayer online world. It's EQ or CoH for puzzle-game fiends. Pumping bilges is done through Tetris Attack, sailing looks like Dr. Mario, and swordfighting is essentially Puzzle Fighter. And it's playable on a Mac. The free trial supposedly lets you boot 10 times (with, I assume, unlimited game time per session), and after that you have to subscribe to keep playing. I was dumb enough to boot it while doing laundry, and my pirate fell asleep and got logged off without doing much of anything. Arrrr. Realizing this sort of thing might significantly cut down on my enjoyment of the trial, I popped for a month subscription. Almost immediately on starting my next session, I got an offer to join a crew. And then someone else tried to recruit me for her crew. Shiver me timbers, it's good to be loved fer yer puzzlin' skills. Now I sails with the flag Ragnarok, puzzlin' on ye high seas fer the fun of it--an' the pieces of eight (PoE), o' course.
Arrr. Mayhap I'll see ye there, matey.
